What is Minimally Invasive Foot Surgery?
Foot surgery doesn’t always have to be a big, scary ordeal. In fact, thanks to advances in medical technology, there are now a number of minimally invasive procedures that can help you get the care you need without having to go through a long and painful recovery. One such procedure is minimally invasive foot surgery. In this blog post, we will discuss what this surgery is and answer some common questions about it.
So, what is minimally invasive foot surgery? Put simply, it is a type of surgery that is performed using small incisions and requires minimal recovery time. This means that you can get the care you need without having to take a long time off from work or your other activities.
One of the best parts is that surgery is done under local anesthesia, which means you are not put to sleep and the surgery can be done right in our office. Bringing a driver is not necessary unless you just want someone for moral support.
Now that we know what minimally invasive foot surgery is, let’s answer some common questions about it.
Is minimally invasive foot surgery safe?
Yes, minimally invasive foot surgery is very safe. In fact, it has a much lower risk of complications than traditional open surgery. This is because the incisions are small and there is less tissue damage. Is minimally invasive foot surgery painful?
There is always some pain associated with surgery, however the pain experience with minimally invasive surgery is very, well, minimal. Pain medication is not required. Any pain that you may experience can be resolved with Tylenol or Advil.
How long does it take to recover from minimally invasive foot surgery?
Recovery from minimally invasive foot surgery is usually very quick. If everything heals well and you follow post-op instructions, most people are able to transition into normal activities after approximately 11 days.
The most common issue patients experience after surgery is swelling. Swelling can occur for months after surgery, but it is completely normal. It will take time, but the swelling will resolve. Icing and elevating your foot will help alleviate the swelling. We recommend Mod Pod Soothe, which is great to reduce inflammation and pain.
