Winter Foot Care: An Essential Guide
Winter Foot Care: An Essential Guide (Infographic)
Winter can be tough on our feet, so it’s important to give them some TLC during the chilly season. These are also great tips to get your feet ready for spring, which is (hopefully) just around the corner!
Over winter, many of us cover up our feet away under heavy boots and thick socks. However, just because our feet aren’t on display doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t invest in the same level of care and attention as we do over the Summer.
Common Wintertime Foot Problems
During the winter, many people have problems with the health and appearance of their feet. Some common wintertime foot ailments include dryness, chilblains and circulation issues. Oftentimes, these issues stem from cold and wet weather which can wreak havoc on our feet if they are not cared for correctly. Lower temperatures may also intensify foot pain relating to pre-existing conditions such as Plantar Fasciitis.
Preventing Foot Injuries in Winter
Icy surfaces also increase the likelihood of injury from slips and falls. One way to avoid getting injured this winter is to invest in the right footwear. When shopping for new winter shoes or boots, look out for the following:
- A good-quality design that can withstand poor weather conditions
- Made from watertight materials that will keep your feet dry
- Features insulating qualities that will keep you warm
- A low heel that is easy to walk in
- Anti-slip soles
- Just the right fit – not too wide or too narrow
