7 Tips to Avoid Sunburned Feet in the Summer

7 Tips to Avoid Sunburned Feet in the Summer

Summertime is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the sun and warm weather. However, it’s important to take precautions when spending time in the sun, especially when it comes to your feet. Follow these tips and you’ll be able to enjoy the summer without having to worry about painful burns!

When you walk on hot pavement or sand, the risk of burning the bottom of your feet is very real. The skin on the bottom of your feet is thicker er than other parts of your body, and it can’t protect against high temperatures as well. That’s why it’s so important to be careful when you’re walking on hot surfaces.

I once saw a diabetic patient who burned the bottom of his feet on sand and didn’t realize because he had neuropathy. Luckily for him, everything healed nicely, but burns can be very serious, and they can easily become infected.

Follow the tips below and you’ll be able to enjoy the summer without having to worry about painful sunburns!

Wear sunscreen:

This is one of the most important tips for avoiding sunburns on your feet. Be sure to apply sunscreen all over your feet, including between your toes, before heading outdoors. Reapply every two hours or as needed.

Wear shoes:

Another important tip for avoiding sunburns is to wear shoes when you’re outdoors. This will protect your feet from the hot pavement or sand. If you’re going to be in the water, wear shoes that can get wet. This will also prevent you from stepping on things such as glass that can be hiding on the ground.

Limit time in the sun:

One of the best ways to avoid sunburns is to limit your time in the sun. If you’re going to be outside for a long period of time, be sure to take breaks in the shade.

Wear loose-fitting clothing:

Wearing loose-fitting clothing will help to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Be sure to cover up as much of your skin as possible, including your feet.

Stay hydrated:

Staying hydrated is important for overall health, but it’s also important for avoiding sunburns. Be sure to drink plenty of water when you’re outdoors in the sun.

Avoid hot surfaces:

Hot surfaces, such as pavement or sand, can cause burns. If you must walk on hot surfaces, be sure to wear shoes that will protect your feet.

Know the signs of a burn:

It’s important to know the signs of a sunburn so that you can treat it immediately. These signs include redness, pain, swelling, and blistering.

With these tips, you can enjoy the summer without having to worry about burns on the bottom of your feet. Just be sure to take precautions and stay safe in the sun!
