Ball of Foot Pain

We currently see a variety of pain in the ball of the foot. Sometimes due to a neuroma and others due to biomechanical issues. One of these issues can be a plantar plate tear. After failing conservative treatment, you may be a candidate for a repair of your plantar plate.

About the Procedure

Plantar plate repair is an outpatient procedure in which the surgeon makes an incision on the top of your foot over the affected joint. They will locate the torn structure, repair it with suture or very strong tape and relocate your joint. You will be able to walk in a boot after this procedure and will likely be back to a shoe within 6-8 weeks.

Another outpatient procedure can be performed for metatarsalgia, a condition that causes pain at the end of the metatarsals. This procedure is done both minimally invasive and open. The surgeon will cut in your bone to shorten it and relieve the pressure on the ball of the foot. Afterwards, you will be in a boot for about 6 weeks.
